Prof. Takahiro A. Kato, the director of the Hikikomori Research Lab, was honored with the AsCNP Science Award (Clinical Section).
Message from Director. Takahiro A. Kato
I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award, which recognizes our diverse clinical research, including:
・The Research on Asian Psychotropic Prescription Pattern (REAP) project, a collaborative study on psychotropic prescriptions across Asia (https://reap.asia)
・Our international initiatives related to Hikikomori (https://www.hikikomori-lab.com)
・Reverse translational research focusing on microglia, the immune cells in the brain.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the mentors and colleagues who have supported me since my time at Kyushu University.
At the award lecture, titled “Exploring Asian Neuropsychopharmacological Research: Polypharmacy, Microglia, and Hikikomori: Beyond Western Perspectives,” I emphasized the importance of neuropsychopharmacological research originating from Asia—not simply following Western models, but developing perspectives unique to our region.
Together with my colleagues at the Department of Psychiatry, Hokkaido University, I am committed to further advancing these research efforts.
I sincerely appreciate your continued support.
